The White Mix: Songs for Moving Very Quickly Down a Snowy Mountainside

Date January 13
Miracler Van Bryan Biesel
Location Decatur, GA

Note from VBB
Whether you are loping along a bunny slope, sailing down a black diamond, or upside down inside a snow drift, these songs will get you through the day, back home to a nice mug of hot chocolate.

Notes from Your Hostess
I first met This Week's Miracler, Van Bryan Biesel, back in the mid-80's, when he was studying acoustical engineering, dating my lil' sister, and playing drums with The Bedspins (still a great band name). Fast forward a couple of decades to The Facebook Era* which finds V. Bryan living in Georgia with his wife and four (4) daughters, one (1) bathroom and, hopefully, one very (VERY) large man cave somewhere on the outer edge of the property.

And what has VBB brought us today? Here's what: a bunch of new artists for this group, hinted at by (back by pop demand) the V.B. Biesel ClueStrip.

*And speaking of the Book of Face,
We've got a real party going on there now, with about 60 Miraclers chewing up the scenery. Last week, one Miracler was offering free tickets to that evening's mod-music at the SF Symphony (thanks, Sam). Currently there's a rousing discussion on those 2009 hits which DIDN'T find themselves on a Miracler mix (and a good crib sheet for upcoming lazy Miraclers).

Mix is here. Enjoy, XOK

Thank you, VBB, for a lovely mix. But I'm still not convinced about John Denver...

I think the key to loving John Denver is growing up in an Appalachian state during the 70's--then it is a done deal. Failing that, you may have to loop "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" on your iPod until his genius becomes fully known to you. God speed.

Hey there Bryan -

Such a treat to hear a mix by you after all these years. The John Denver song absolutely works for me especially along side the unknown yodeler, Ricky Skaggs and Eddie Cochran. Thanks for this eclectic mix!

What does it say about me that my very favorite track on here is the yodeling? No one answer that. I can't imagine skiing to some of these tracks, but I'm not skiing right now, so I enjoyed the melange of flavors. Eddie Cochran rocks!

The John Denver thing also works if you're only half West Virginian, and even if you never lived there but grew up on foreign shores, like me...

...mountain mama, take me home....

And given my other half is Irish, you had me at track 1. Blood will out.

And I don't know from skiing, but the first stretch of songs is perfect long-walk cadence.

Enjoyed this bunches. Thanks.

I can think of only 2 John Denver fans I've ever known & one of them was (is?) Mark Kozelek of Red House Painters etc. He's a skilled guitar picker etc so I think there must be something to JD.

Sam, speaking of Red House Painters (spoiler alert), this Wednesday's mix will bring those guys back into the Miracle fold after a long hiatus. And in case you didn't know about my secret JD fondness, you now know three fans.
