"La verite est scandaleuse. Mais sans elle, il n'y a rien qui vaille. Une vision honnete et naive du monde est deja un chef-d'oeuvre."

Oui! Oui! A thousand times, Oui!

If you start this mix at the exact moment the "Criterion Collection" logo appears on the screen at the beginning of Jacques Tati's "Mon Oncle," the music syncs up to the action.

Spooky.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to figure that out. Outstanding insight Doug!

Thank you for resisting Serge Gainsbourgh.

Sure the "mix" was "cool" and "hip" & I inadvertantntly tapped my toes to the many rhthymical songs like "Le Diner" like anyone else would do but did anyone else notice that most if not all of these songs were imports!?!? I don't mean to pick on Mr Fontaine, maybe he's from another country or doesn't understand how Americans talk or play music -- AND there's nothing wrong with that!!!! -- but we AMericans need to think about what we're buying & from who. YOu're probably thinking, oh, I'm just buying a song, who am I hurting???? Well, Mr Blank, for one -- he sells itunes. So maybe you're thinking: I don't know Mr Blank so even tho he's an AMERIOCAN I don't care if he can sell his itunes. Well, that's wrong, but if that's what you're thinking -- THINK AGAIN!!! When Mr Blank can't sell his itunes what happens!???? THINK people!!!! He won't have the money to buy graphic designs from Kelly or Googles, or whatever, from Luce!!! But that's not all!!! Then THEY can't buy tickets from me or bread from the store, & then the store closes, etC!!! IT's simple economics -- if you give money for foreign products the money LEAVES THE USA!!! Prices rise!! This is what happened in the GREAT Depression of the 1970s!!! We sent our money to ARABAIA then didn't have any anymore -- & pretty soon the jails were crowded with unemployed criminals!!! Not only that but foreign products are "copycats." A lot of people may not recognize all the music I do but one of those foreign songs were exactly like "Baby You Can Drive My Car" by the Beatles and "Painted Black" by Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones. If you don't know those original songs do yourself a favor and check them out. These foreign versions were exactly the same except not as good and harder to understand -- because they were in Japanese!!! This is just overseas people outsourceing AMerican!!! ideas & selling them back to ourselves --but worse!!! The blessing of America -- or one of them -- is that we have everything we need right here & don't need to import anything but still the government lets this happen -- for some reason!!! Still, it's a free country, which is what makes America great!!! so make your own decision -- good & American & we keep our money or ....

BAD & foreign & our money goes to outsources who may not have our best interests at heart -- to say the least!!!

Thank about it!!!

Here here Sam! Tariffs are clearly what's needed, if we are to keep good ol' fashioned American alt/indie rock alive. Sometimes I wonder why white people even bother with anything else. To be honest I'm not even sure why we need more than three cords. But that's another pet peeve, which I'll save for another time. Maybe someone could explain to me why, if it was good enough for me when I was fourteen, I should "move on" to "explore" other types of music now. After all I've been with the same woman since high school and I'm sure I speak for both of us when I say that sexual variety just sounds overrated, if not downright scary, and musical variety is pretty much the same thing. In fact I don't understand why true blue Regan loving Americans, like you and I Sam, seem so infatuated with foreign cuisine lately. Who is this Bourdain character and how did someone with such a clearly French surname get his own show on American television? Plus I can't even pronounce chipotle.

Anyway, thanks for your post Sam. And I'd just like to say to the rest of the readers here, don't be fooled by Canadian alternative/indie music. It is not the same. They may all look like white people with guitars and tattoos, and they may even sing in that nasally whine that is comfort to any white persons ears but they still bow down to the Queen. Its true, just check out their currency.

Dear readers you have been warned: buy American music or we'll all be watching gas prices reach five Euros a liter. Mark my word.

Hmm.. Yes, Canadian indie music definitely isn't the same as American. Just listen to how they say "out" and how they slip in casual references to universal healthcare...

By the way, I really enjoyed this mix as well as all of the other mixes so far. It's a brilliant idea and I hope I'll be able to live up to the high standard set before me (I'm on in January).

What were they singing? What did they say?

C'est Fantastique!

Sadly, I learned French with Eddie Izzard..."The mouse is under the table, the cat is on the chair and the monkey is on the branch." But, I know French when I hear it!
And LOVE your Super mix!

This mix was a big hit in Mendocino county of all places. The 3MPMP mixes were crowd pleasers in general.

Mmmm. Perfect.

My four years of high school/college French is banging around inside my head after a quick trip to Paris last month, so I'm using this mix to keep the remembering on the right track.
