Bonus Holiday Mix: Welcome Christmas

Date

Did you think you would have to suffer an entire holiday season without a new-mix lifeline from a festive Miracler?
Like the Prodge has ever NOT celebrated Christmas. I've been sitting on this mix for a few days, because my schedule, combined with Miracler commenting ups and downs, prevented sharing until now. But since I know y'all are going to load up the comment section for this week's Van Biesel mix, I'm putting this up before any more advent calendar doors open. From the Miracler who in 2008 brought us Have Yourself a Hi-Fi Christmas, we're gifted this year with Welcome Christmas. It's got everything: something old, something new, something Jim Backus, and something blues. Enjoy. Hee-haw! XOK

Mix is UP. Same password—check your inbox. Make sure you come back and comment! To comment on this mix, click on the 'Comment' button below the post and write something. If you don't have/want to use your Google etc. accounts, just type your name in the "Name" box and you are done. See you back here or on our members-only Facebook page soon. XOK

Hurray Jeanne-Marie! I love xmas mixes and can't wait to give this one a go.

Just a little note about the two mixes Kelly added that were mine (not created for 3mpm specifically, just mixes I made and shared with Kelly and the group last year!). I collect wacky 50s/60s Christmas records from thrift stores and was able to digitize them. Some are traditional and lovely, some are definitely quirky. You'll hear lots of vinyl crackling, but to me that's all part of the charm! Hope you like their wacky and wonderful sound. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! MERRY CHRISTMAS! HO HO HO!

Our family has a Christmas, winter, Hanukkah, New Year's mix that is almost always on in the house. Jim Backus and John Coltrane in the same mix? C'mon, Jeanne-Marie, you're making it hard for us mortals to compete. Thank you, thank you, for the seasonal cheer. I can't wait to add these beauties to the compilation.

I forgot to give our mixstress a shout out for keeping the ball rolling and the mixes flowing. Life's busy. Alix, thanks for putting this thing together and including me in the party. Merry Christmas.

This is a great mix. I had yet to feel the holiday spirit, but now I’m all in. I actually have a Ray Conniff record that’s great, but this isn’t on it. Annie Lennox has a voice for all time. Bing Crosby, another timeless voice. I’ve never heard the Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan song. Very nice. I can’t count the number of times I had to play Greensleeves in different junior high and high school bands. Coltrane’s version is fantastic. Wow, that Roland Kirk cut is really good. I have such a soft spot for Vince Guaraldi. Jim Backus! Awesome. That voice takes me back to my childhood in such a wonderful way. Thank you so much for this bit of holiday cheer, Jeanne-Marie. I hope everyone has a great holiday.

This should be good! For me Deck Them Halls sets the standard, but digging into the Alixmas 2008 mix is starting to challenge that! Thanks hostess and miraclers for these treats. Happy Christmas

I think one of my favorite suspects of the holidays is hearing these old chestnuts for this one month period. Come Dec 26th I deselect everything in my holiday library.

Jeanne-Marie you love this stuff as much as I do, or more! Love the eclectic mix and the great pacing. Favorite segue: Little Drummer Boy to Fun Fun Fun/March of the Kings. which by the way is a great xmas tune and one that never occurred to me. Thanks so much. And hostess w/mostess, kudos and good cheer for supplying us with all of the holiday archive. And sorry I missed your party.

Cheers all, Mark

Thanks y'all for appreciating!

Alex and Mark Thank you both for your grand Xmas Mixes. All three of them got lots of play in seasons past and and this season is no different.

I love all the crackly sounds on yours Alex and the Angela Lansbury stand out! Brilliant choice putting "Go Where I Send You" on a Christmas mix. We love the Border Brass over here too!

Deck them Halls is super cool, this current listening season has brought out new favs - like the Prokofiev - Lieutenant Kije. I didn't think of this as a Christmas song - but my boys did, hmmm. It would have fit on Welcome Christmas too!

Thank you to our Princess / Hostess for sharing all this holiday cheer.

Merry Christmas!

I do love a tasty Christmas mix, and this one is yummy. For me, Winter would just be three months of hibernating in a cave if it weren't for Vince Guaraldi's "Skating," which somehow makes even shoveling snow fun. And Nancy Wilson's "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" is another all-time favorite for the season. There are several new treats here for me to add to the Christmas playlist. Thanks very much, Jeanne-Marie!

Thanks, Jeanne-Marie, for proving again that Christmas music can be real music.

Fantastic mix of genres - sounding really nice this week. Love the jazz stuff. Never knew Ray Conniff could sound so... James Bond? Thanks Jeanne-Marie and Happy New Year to all!

Between the holidays and my birthday (my personal favorite holiday), December was crazy...so I'm just getting to this in early January. We sang "The Holly and the Ivy" at the Polytechnic School "Christmas Sing" when I was in second grade, and I don't think I've heard it since. All these years later, I am reminded that...second graders are cute, but not professional singers.

Any mix that starts with a tune from the Grinch soundtrack is okay by me, even if that mix were put together in July.

Sometimes Christmas mixes, particularly Jeanne-Marie's, are the best part of Christmas. Thanks for always making sure we have new ones!

Oh how I wish I had listened to this great mix earlier! After having a horrible song stuck in my head since Thankers: "it's the holiday season,so whoopdidoo & dickery dock, and don't forget to hang up your sock" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loXa69CB_4I

I almost forgot how much I love Christmas music. Thanks for pulling together these great songs, there are some wonderful versions of my faves here. Like that Barenaked Ladies version of God Rest Ye Merry Gents. Thanks Jeanne-Marie!
