About this week's Mix
When Jeanne-Marie Greiner wrote to ask if she could switch her mix date to early December, my curiosity was piqued. Today it is sated. For today, we are treated to one of the more collectible Christmas-themed mixes of, okay, all time. I mean, we’ve got the The Christmas Song, sung by the WRITER of the Christmas Song (the identity may surprise you), backed up by frickin’ Judy Garland! Also in the big sack: Dinah Shore, Rosemary Clooney, Mitch Miller (natch), Thurl Ravenscroft (duh) and, what’s this? Claudine Longet back to back with Robert Goulet? This is definitely not your Pottery Barn Christmas Classics® holiday mix. Enjoy, luckies.
About this week’s Miracler
Talk about street cred: Jeanne-Marie personally gifted me with the Andy Williams Christmas Special video long before Stephen Colbert tried to spoof it. And this girl didn’t just type “Christmas” into iTunes to bring us this stuff: listen closely for the needle pop on each song—it’s the real stuff. And it’s not just cuz she’s got two adorable boys who were born already knowing the lyrics. I saw their mom bopping around to this song back in the fifth grade. It’s real, folks.

Holy crap! This is the ultimate, final word in Christmas albums. Magical and terrifying, all at the same time. (Just like Christianity!) Thanks for not including the Bing-Bowie version of "Little Drummer Boy." A doff of my stocking cap to you, Ms. Jeanne-Marie.
What a great Cold War era Xmas mix! Sad to think that today's post-Cold War kids don't know that era's classical entertainers, such as Mike Douglas! And the "bustin' out freestyle" portion Mitch Miller's "Must Be Santa" suggests that he deserves the title of Original Rapper even more than does Lou Reed! And excellent French-themed segue from Longet to Goulet. Thanks!
Cap on head, Suit that's red, Special night, Beard that's white.... Try getting THAT out of your head after the first listen!
Fabulous mix, J-M. 'Twill fit right in next to my vintage Firestone Christmas Albums® and will certainly receive plenty of play at Gala '08. All Miraclers are invited! This Saturday, starting at 8 and going late.
We shall toast you, fair Christmas Miracler!
XOK
Reindeer Sleigh, comes our way, Ho Ho Ho, Cherry Nose, Cap on Head, Suit that's Red, Special night, Beard that's White....
Believe it or not the lyrics were sent with my son from kindergarten as his class is singing this song in the Christmas assembly. Really!
I like that Doug thanked me for not putting that song on!! Indeed, we have all heard that most ironic pairing enough.
I am jealous of you all for going to the Gala!! She's my best girl and I have never been to one of them. Think of me whilst eating the cupcakes.
Jeanne-Marie, this is too much fun. Hifi Christmas has arrived in stereophonic sound. Wow. Can't wait to play for my Pop! Thanks, and Happy Holidays!
Thank you Saucy-Jean for this terrific mix. I've burned and donated a copy to my fave café and they've been playing the hell out of it.
(And why wouldn't every song have a wish for Judy Garland to sing the chorus with me?)
Greg, what fun news about the cafe, I am so glad you shared it!
My husband will be really glad when I am finally ready to retire it for another year.
still enjoying. was i supposed to stop playing this in january? oops.
