A Primitive Kind of Philosophy

Date:
July 28, 2008

Miracler:
Andrew Wagner
Location: NYC

Miracler info:
Andrew Wagner lives in New York City with his lovely wife Heather (whose first book, “Friend or Faux?” will be published in the Spring of 2009 by Quirk Books!). Andrew is currently the editor of American Craft magazine which you can investigate here:

http://www.americancraftmag.org/

Shameless plug: You can also subscribe! If you’re in San Francisco and are interested at all in Craft & Design, you may also be interested in attending a panel discussion called “The Politics of Craft and Design” that he put together which will be taking place on Friday, August 15th at 6:00 at Fort Mason Center. There will be lots of other people there like Rob Forbes (the dude who started Design Within Reach), Robin Petravic (the owner of Heath Ceramics) and Garry Knox Bennett (crazy ass furniture designer) as well as others. Plus, there will be lots of excellent food and drink. If you are interested, drop him a line (he’d love to hear from you).

Art muse: The cover model for his mix is his two year old niece, Soumeya Bouhamama. If you keep your eyes peeled you may catch her rolling through the streets of San Francisco but be careful, she is tough as hell!

BONUS SONG! At Andrew's request, the 28-minute opus, Oahu. Andrew requests that you download it and slot it in as the second-to-last song on his (very long) mix. Love, Management

First of all, I want to apologize for my shameless self-promotional plugs (ha!). Been working too much I think...

Secondly, want you all to know that there was supposed to be a 16th track on this here mix...it was supposed to be track number 15 - right before the Juvenile Track which is track 15 now. The missing track is Oahu by Steven Merritt's the 6ths. It is off the album Hyacinth and Thistles. It is a great song. that is all...thank you for listening...

The Devendra Banhart is supposed to be musically ironic, I guess (although he does have another song that's just Elvis Presley titles), but it's my musically favorite song. The Slow Motion song is catchy. Not the verses, which appear to be in some foreign language (Spanglish?) but the chorus, "slow motion for me." It's hard to get out of one's mind.

i was going to pick up an ergonomic office chair i saw posted on craigslist today after dinner. i put on this mix, started the car, and began to drive. i turned up the volume. a few minutes later i realized i was lost. . .and i had not yet left my neighborhood.

I love your mix! And, my new ergonomic office chair!

All curios comments but I love them all! And I love you all! Kelly, thank you for being a true saint!

Oh yeah, one more thing (even though Kelly hates me for even getting into this - it's a long story). The inclusion of "Slow Motion" was intended to knock you from your sleep after subjecting yourself to the wonderful, blissfulness of Oahu. So to really understand "Slow Motion" you must first listen to Oahu. Or not. Sorry Kelly!

I just wanna put Jens Lekman in my pocket and carry him around with me everywhere.

And since Sam mentioned Devendra I have to say that I was introduced to him through the first 3MPM (thank you very much) and I've been a sort of Devendra nut ever since.

Cherished Miraclers,

if there's a silver lining to this confusing string of information, perhaps we can see it as an object lesson in following my directions.

For instance, not to mention any names (Wagrew Andner), but when it's your turn to go and you send your Hostess a BLANK CD, we'll be starting off at a disadvantage.

Following that, if you proceed to make me PURCHASE SONGS FOR YOU when iTunes rejects yours, (after, um, you just WON 100 iTUNES BUX from me), and then your mix turns out to be 1.5 hours long (over regulation length and bad for tech reasons), your mix might not work exactly as you would like!

Making matters worse, the weeping Miracler Hostess might require you to send her a bottle of wine to nurse the pain.

These comments have nothing to do with my love and respect for Wagrew Andner and his amazingly enjoyable mix, natch. Rather, it's a little plea to all reading this to help make my Sundays easier when it's your turn to Miraclize, and FOLLOW MY HARD AND FAST RULES (there's only, like, 3) for maximum mix-uploading/downloading benefits.

I've spoken. And I love you all.

Jeez, that Wagrew Andner guy sounds like a real jerk!!! Hopefully the wine and love he will be bringing in August will make up for any misdeeds he may have performed (I swear that disc wasn't blank when I sent it to you! ha!)...

And yes, Jens Lekman is something special!

Great mix. Although I felt like I should be on a massage table while listening to Oahu. Thanks for reintroducing me to that Big Star song. I just learned it for my bands next show.

Wow. I think I'm in love with Jens Lekman. Does that make me a homosexual?

Anonymous said...

hmmmmmm...well, I guess that depends Doug! Ha!

Kai, when and where is your band's show? Would love to hear another rendition of that song...which is an amazing song!

Awesome. My favorite comp so far...

Thanks Andrew!

Wow!!!!
I'm a bit late enjoying your Fabulous Pop Mix...
But now, loving it nonetheless.
AND, believe it or not, I was gonna have "Time to Pretend" AND "Heartbeats" on my miracle.(No Kidding) Funny you had them follow each other! I guess I have some miracle (re)work to do.
