Bonus Friday: The Bardo Between

Date: Friday, February 13, 2009

Miracler:
Arthur Baker

Location:
Mount Tamalpais

Two Valentine mixes in one week!
Today’s mix picks up where Pete’s Monday mix left off—There Goes My Heart—and kind of runs with it.

About today’s Miracler
Arthur Baker is a true romantic — so much so that in his hands, even a breakup mix becomes a swooner. Maybe it’s all that fresh air at his home atop Mount Tam, or maybe it’s the years of Buddhism and books and travel and stuff. Whatever it is, he’s able to embrace what others might prefer to sleep, bawl, or drink away: the end of the end.

A few words from today’s Miracler:
Hello Miraclers — Well, here we are again. During the time since I first interloped on this Blessed Affair, I clandestinely fashioned a compilation that charted through music the Arc of a Relationship from the first blush through the last, ahem, sigh. So I thought when I interloped this time, I should more openly complete the Arc as it passes below the Horizon. This mix, then, begins the moment that you truly realize that the Relationship is not going to work out and follows the moods and mazes that one may need to pass through to be able to find Love again. Its intent is to revisit but also to pass through and to clear with the power of Music any remainder that obstructs the Heart from being renewed in its ability to feel the new moment of Life and the Bright Field of Love, or to at least have fun trying! Hope you like it. I might recommend listening to it front-back if possible for the greatest effect. Whatever you do, enjoy it how you will at your peril: The Bardo Between. PS: Any resemblances to any persons historical, fictitious, anime, living or dead are purely snarky and unwarranted. Thanks for the chance to share. A.B.

Mix is here.

RIP Lux Interior and Blossom Dearie
I’ve been having visions of them now... She’s serenading the heavens from a fluffy cloud, and he’s having a bath in a boiling cauldron surrounded by flames. And they’re both grinning. By the way, here’s a lovely Blossom interview/performance that’ll make you smile (Thanks Russ).

Have a dreamy weekend, all,
XOK

Thanks, Arthur, for a very personal journey. After a break-up, I usually just lost a few pounds and then started dating again.

A wonderful collection of songs, although after all of our recent rainy day mixes, I'd love to hear your sonic take on the first three months of a relationship. Let's get happy!

Yeah, this is a fine, fine mix—reads like a thick, complex novel. And that first song alone, I could listen to that all day. In fact, I just did! But you're right—listening to the mix is like being in a relationship: it ain't over til it's over.

Thanks for adding such dimension to the otherwise flatness of the word "valentine."

XOK

I'm enjoying this very much Arthur, from the lovely cover all the way through. And I hear a story running through it all. Thank you for the goodness!
