About this week’s Miracler
So I’m a little partial to this fellow. First of all, he’s a ringer for a young Paul Newman, whether he agrees or not. Additionally, we share a love for old-school country and have been to countless shows together over the years, including a Texas pilgrimage to the Austin City Limits festival. Plus, he introduced me to the fabulous Don Walser, who will be wooing you imminently. And on top of that, I married the guy. To his wife, I mean. So forgive me if I have only lovely things to say about Pete Scanlon. But let’s hear what he’s got for us.

Cowboy Blues - Valentine's Day 2009: Notes from Pete Scanlon
Thank you all for the opportunity to stand among such Pop Greatness, and special thanks to our very hospitable 3MPMP hostess, Kelly Niland.

In the spirit of a new administration, I’ll admit upfront to deviating from a few of the guidelines. I've included both kinds of music on this compilation—and then added two more (cowboy and blues). Apologies to the pop purists.

Staying true to their origins, most of these songs are about heartbreak, or breaking hearts. Country, western, cowboy and blues purists prefer it that way. Apologies to the romantics. Happy Valentine’s Day anyway.

I couldn't quite stretch the pedal steel far enough to fill 20 beers with tears. This mix is a few songs short of a full shuffle.

Enjoy the guitars responsibly. There’s plenty here to go around.

And unintentionally, I've included two Bob Wills songs, though he sings on neither of them. Apologies to the Bob Wills fans if I've overlooked another here that is his.

This mix in no way reflects my view of Valentine’s Day, or romance in general. XO to my wife.
Pete

Mix is here.

thank you Kelly. I'll take a comparison to a young Paul Newman any day. Thanks too for the opportunity to participate in this great project.

Really fun concept and great selections. Some of my favorite artists-- Jayhawks, WIllie and Steve Earle. I guess I'm a cowgirl at heart. Thank you! And thanks Miss Kelly for all your hard work on this project. xo

Nice bunch of songs. That Jayhawks song always tugs on my sentimental, lighter-waving heart. Thanks!
