News-n-Notes
In April of this year, ST helped us Welcome Spring with a mix that provoked such thoughts as, "I am completely titillated!," "A nice mixed bag," "I'm totally loving this...keeps getting better and is indeed loaded on ze olde iPhone for my walk home tonight!," "This mix hit just the right note for me. I was driving along the ocean with the kids and the volume just kept creeping up and up with each song," "This is what I'm talkin' about when I'm talkin' about liner notes. And the music is great too—loved Rocket Sled, but this one has just as many tracks headed to my favorites," and many more.

Before Welcome Spring, we had Rocket Sled, our last mix of our truncated 3rd season. Stuff said about that: "Fun mix," "Solid mix. What a crazy guilty pleasure that last one is!", "Really fun mix, Mr. T—thank you," "Lot of new stuff for me here. Thanks ST, for an interesting mix," and so on. So that's the past stuff. What's in the present:

Bio, by ST
Nothing to add relative to April's bio, except: As a direct descendant of the inventor of gazpacho, I was thrilled and honored this year to be invited to serve as grand martial for La Carrera Formula Uno Gran Premio de España Santander. I got to meet Nicole Scherzinger! And Michelle Yeoh!

Notes and selected comments, by ST
I initially started off with Isaac Hayes's 18-plus-minute-long version of "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," burned another seven on Parts & Labor's "Satellites," and then thought "This must change." Started playing around with timing approaches, hence an instantiation of Two Em Pee Em Pee (versus the usual Three). Play gaplessly.

1. "Oh, it's called 'Intro'? Maybe I'll put that one first."
2. When I was a kid I confused the "sight for sore eyes" lyric with something I couldn't quite work out but I was sure it was about psoriasis.
3. Canonical Beastie Boys: Something is thrown hard at a wall in a noisy environment, is allowed to slide down for 8 beats, then it repeats.
4. More a prediction than a recounting.
6. Finally! Some new Vince Guaraldi Peanuts music! Wait, what? It's not? Can I still eat this Dolly Madison Zinger?
7. In which Barry Williams soldiers on while all falls apart around him. Also: Mmmmarcia.
8-9. Hey, I just noticed the Holland/Harlem thing.
11. Soundtrack for future drone-on-drone aerial combat.
12. In which The Law of Supply and Demand explains all. Also: "Garrrrls".
13. I know the embarrassment of wishing on satellites.
18. In which Mr. Berry incinerates any hope of ever receiving a FoMoCo licensing deal, then, for good measure, launches the ashes of said hope into low-earth orbit.
19. If I was in the animated portion of the Canadian edition of "Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi," we'd totally do this song. Also: "Thompin'"
22. Ms. Case's voice...
23. ...evokes Ms. Cosentino's. (or vice versa.) (For me, anyway.)

Note from Your Hostess
Among my secret goals for the group, one has always been that someone would make us a 2MPM mix, and today that wish comes true. And, it's a super-fun batch of 23 2-minute songs, clocking in at a cool 45.0 minutes: awwwyeahhhhh. Let's get some more comments on the board, y'all!

Mix is up. See you back here or on our members-only Facebook page soon.
Until next week,
XOK

Ooooooo! Nice mix, Mr. Trujillo.

Have to confess that my first reaction was more like "@#$%!" having already put together my own version of the short form for 3MPMP, something sitting in the wings, and called "Two Minute Heroes." The inspiration (maybe as your own?) was to cram more songs into this year's shorter time limit.

All D'oh!-ness aside, I'm really diggin' this collection. Wire is an obvious source for a quick one, but I don't have the song you've included here. (Note: it imported into my iTunes as "Cheecking Tongues," with an extra "c.") The Blow and The Mountain Goats and Joe Clay's numbers are especially good in the ear holes.

Beautiful cover, too.

Great mix that magically hangs together — and not just by length. I love the invisible threads that bind the disparate. I think the Brady Bunch, in this context, sounds so perfectly surreal.

This mix is a great argument for pop pith.

Things I enjoyed that I didn't know:
-Holland: cool, sexy, perfect.
-Wire: odd, which is good.
-The Blow: Wow. Cooler than I am, for sure.
-Best Coast: big and dreamy, just like I like it.

thanks for the pith o' plenty.

Great idea, cool mix... Count me a third thumb up for Wire, too.

Worth the price of admission just for the Ramsey Lewis meets Belle & Sebastian Go! Team & surprisingly appropriate Brady Bunch. Thanks, Steven T.

WOW. Great mix. One of my favorites of 2011. But I almost threw my back out when the last track (Best Coast—love her) ended, and the next song in my iTunes library started—an 8 minute opus from Blur.

Love this roller-coaster mix, with bands I'm not familiar with (like Holland and Brady Bunch) sprinkled in among the old faves.

This is awesome! Sweet idea. Sometimes three minutes is just too much ... two is perfect. The Brady's can sure get groovy. Now I'm ready for a Brady vs. Partridge Family musical smackdown. Love the Don Covay, Joe Clay, Chuck Berry sequence. And always enjoy Best Coast. Thanks for a plentiful, compact mix.

Great idea and great picks to back it up. Thanks!

Gosh, señor Trujillo! You hit the spot with this mix.

I guess as you move the song length slide down closer to two minutes, by definition the resulting set has to include more and more of my faves. Two Minute Warning sure proved this theory!

It also crossed my mind at some point doing short songs so I could cram more tunes under the 45 min mark. Well done I say.

Thanks for The Blow which I didn't know, for 'Fortunately Gone' which I hadn't heard in aeons, and in general for such a fun mix! Do you deejay at parties? :)

Nice run down of some brisk shots from many a modern day legends. You had me immediately at Factory Girl. Specially liked the Joe Clay tune - will have to check out more of his. In this fast paced world how quickly we forget that 2 minutes is a long frickin time. Cheers.

Mr. S. T.

I resisted the urge to comment early on, before absorbing this mix, cause like I told our hostess I knew I would love it, and of course I do.

I love the two minute theme and that the music branches out as broadly as it does. Then there's the great songs - Chuck Berry, the Mountain Goats, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, Holland, the Blow, and I could go on, but then I would just be listing all the bands etc...
Still hearing Best Coast right after Neko was interesting too.

Lot's of ear candy to tape here!
Thanks!

This mix is great, rock-solid from start to finish. Too many favorites on here to name them all, but the Tegan & Sara tune was a particularly nice surprise.

Thanks one and all for the lovely commentary.

to be sure - I have listened to this over and over again, it is the kind of mix that sounds fresh every time.

Excellent mix, sir.....love the concept, but hell, it's really just a fab selection of tunes. As usual with this group, some old faves I haven't listend to in a while (The Breeders! Neko Case!) but also loads of new-to-me tunes (um, how have i never heard this Brady song??). Nice one!

Small doses add up to a lot of fun! It's always great to hear the Beasties, love the transition of Holland to Shadowy Men, this Wire song is quite compelling. Thanks Mr T!

Back from vacation and this mix is back to hogging up all the space in my ear holes. Not a song on it that doesn't shake major art boo-tay. And all of them play well with them's that's fore and aft. That "Pile of Gold" number tickles especially. Sorta a Peaches meets Santigold feel?

Rock on, Mr. T.

I can see not many people like this mix. Ha. I'll jump on the wagon (sorry I'm late to the party). Great concept, and even better selections. Went right past the Brady Bunch, not thinking twice that it was from a cheesy TV show from my childhood. Love the Shadowy Men (they did the intro for Kids in the Hall...another from my childhood!).

All so great. Thanks.

And Kevin thought he was late to the party. Just realized I hadn't commented earlier and if I had commented earlier, I would have said how much I like the M.G.'s (not typically my kind of music, but wow), D.C.'s and B & S. The Billy holds up so well and Joe Clay, man, love those old rockabilly guys.

Still diggin' this mix. Thanks Steven.

A compilation of songs clocking in at under two minutes that does not include anything by the Minutemen? Or any hardcore punk? That's impressive. Also, this mix is impressive. The songs flow well together while retaining a variety
