Happy Bonusness
We’ve got a short, fabulous, smoooove jazz (not related in any way to smooth jazz) mixette today from a sassy gal named Harim Kim who’s gonna ease us into the weekend nice-n-easily.

About today's mixette, from today's Miracler
This little mix is dedicated to my dad, whose love for music so ensured that as a kid, I would learn two native languages, Korean and jazz. This is the only explanation I can think of for the incomparable effect jazz has on me, how it somehow communicates very directly to the core of my being rather than just fluttering about on the surface like the other languages I hear around me.

These five songs were picked not because they're the best of all time, the most popular or anything else conclusive like that, but because they so playfully highlight each artist's effortless virtuosity. (If you plain hate riffs, you won't be too pleased.) The characteristic that runs through all of these songs is a kind of laid-back ease with a sense of intimacy that one would assume is only typically witnessed by friends and lovers.

In other words, no need to get worked up baby, this is dooowwwntiiiiiiime.
(An actual quote. From me. And I said it just like that.)
I'm also including: a pic of my dad, and some favorite notes from Monk:

"It must be always night, otherwise they wouldn't need the lights."
"Don't play everything (or every time); let some things go by."

Mix is here.

Not much "pop" here but the Thelonious Monk tune did tickle my ears once I gave myself over to it.

Thanks for the Tina Brooks number, Harim. Who she? A Cool Jazz tenor-playing woman? Wow. Unheard of. A Man's World back then. Had to look her up. Oh-- it's "Who HE?"

"Tina" as in "short." With a career among the greats of Blue Note sadly cut short.

Short (hey, didn't there used to be 14 songs in this mix?) but sweet. Mellowness & virtuosity -- 2 great tastes that go great together!
