Allie has been kicking it in the Bay Area since 1993. With her man (fellow Miracler Jeff Morris) behind the scenes, she’s been desperately trying to avoid the trappings of being a Rockridge drone but has slowly succumbed, as evidenced by the $18 they spent on peaches at the Temescal Farmer’s Market the other week. She & Jeff still have not waited 30+ mins in the Bake Sale Betty line but give them another 5 years. When she’s not mocking her teva-baby-sandal neighbors, she’s partying it up like she’s a 25-year-old Princeton graduate (Cloister!), watching copious amounts of TV on her two tivos, guarding her inheritance from her soon-to-be-born niece or nephew and planning her next trip with her certifiably thrifty parents.
Liner Notes
#1 Too Fake / Hockey • If Rod Stewart and The Strokes had a baby, it would be this band.
#2 Make Light / Passion Pit • I’ve been told that they suck live but this ain’t live.
#3 Cold Dust Girl / Hey Champ • Princeton alums, what what!
#4 1901 / Phoenix • I’ve been waiting to like this band since their first album. Freakin’ finally.
#5 Planetman / Ultrachorus • This song makes me want to do aerobics at 350 bpm!
#6 Heartbeat / Late of the Pier • If Franz Ferdinand & The Cars had a baby, it would be this band.
#7 My Mirror Speaks / Death Cab for Cutie • Didn’t jump on the DCFC bandwagon when they played at the OC’s Bait Shop but I’m jumping now.
#8 I Feel Better / Frightened Rabbit • LOVE this song. Makes me want to run for miles and rip my guts out. Not necessarily in that order.
#9 Zero / Yeah Yeah Yeahs • Karen O. Enough said.
#11 Half Asleep / School of Seven Bells • I want to harmonize like they harmonize.
#12 Nobody Could Change Your Mind / The Generationals • I love how tin-ny and janky they sound. Like they’re playing in a storm drain pipe.
#13 She Moves in Her Own Way / The Kooks • The simple guitar strumming and the distinctive British accent, so up my alley.
#14 The Weakest Shade of Blue / The Pernice Brothers • Yes, this was featured in a paint commercial but that doesn’t make it any less catchy and plaintive.
#15 This Love Is F*****g Right! / The Pains of Being Pure at Heart • Jeff says they’re derivative of some 80’s band but couldn’t name them. If you know, please indicate in the comment section. P.S. – the drummer is amazing.
#16 Geraldine / Glasvegas • The lead singer + keyboardist are kind of douches live but again, this ain’t live.
#17 My Girls / Animal Collective • They are just so weirdly wonderful.
#18 Don’t Haunt This Place / Rural Alberta Advantage • I know this is a repeat from Kellen’s mix (and sure, maybe that was a repeat too….) but for freak sake it has been sitting in my mix for 3 months. Plus I’m ALBERTA!
#19 Ragged Wood / Fleet Foxes • When I hear this song, I feel like I should be riding boxcars through the lush green mountains as the sun is just starting to set.
Mix is here. Enjoy. XOK

How'd you break into my iTunes? Good lord, I think you might be my musical soulmate. Sorry, Jesse.
As for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, I don't think they're derivative of anyone. But the Yo La Tengo comparisons make a lot of sense.

Oh, and Passion Pit doesn't suck live. The lead singer's falsetto just grows tiresome even quicker than it does on disc. For me, it was about four songs.
kellen
Kellen,
You have no idea how much I was crapping my pants when I saw your mix. 6 of the same bands! and Band of Horses and the Raveonettes were on my last one. And what's crazy is that only one of our songs overlapped. But I definitely went more commercial. And following your example, I saw 5 of my bands although if I had gotten my shit together and made it treasure island I could have checked off some more. I think you need to start sending me a monthly have you heard of this band?
Your sister in music and miracles,
Allie
jeff doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.
Jesus! This is ridiculous: you speak my language, but in another tongue — if that makes sense. Some quick thoughts, randomly:
-Hockey: I hear hints of Spoon, which is a good thing.
-Passion Pit: Holy guacamole! A lit up Architecture in Helsinki. Maybe. Sorta.
-Phoenix: bought this record two weeks ago and it may be the best record I've ever heard. Maybe.
-Ditto on the Pains of Being....just got it, crazy about it. Echoes of so many things, all welcome.
-Frightened Rabbit: I dig the operatic new wave sentiment.
So much electro pop sentiment! Thank you thank you.
funny, i have that generationals song on my imeem playlist.
Daniel,
Its always to nice to find a brother in music. I look forward with bated breath for your 3MPMP.
Ray,
What's an "imeem"? Is that a do not play list?
One ton of fun. Therefore by association, Pete Kellen, so is your mix!
I've had the occasion to walk around town to this mix a bit. No aerobics instructor needed—this is one powerful 1.2 hour workout.
Standouts so far (but if this mix is like your last one, all will soon become standouts):
Late of the Pier— High energy plan!
Yeah Yeah Yeahs—Can't go wrong there.
The Kooks—Why have I never heard of them? What evil force has kept us apart?
Pernice Bros—do not apologize for the paint tie-in. Besides, with our group of many ad people, it might have been one of us who used it. Think of it as evangelizing.
Glasvegas—The Proclaimers for the new millennium? Already a guilty pleasure of mine—thanks for bringin' them out into the light.
Fleet Foxes: Wanted to ignore them (too many hipster beards) but just can't, between this and Gioia's mix last time. Sign me: a fan.
Beirut: You introduced me to them in your last mix, so it's a fitting close.
I want in on your 'what are you listening to' emails to Kellen! Or, just make me a monthly mix. Now there's an idea.
XOK
imeem is an online playlist thingy. you can then 'download' and it will take you to itunes where it automatically searches and compiles, if available, all the tracks in your playlist.
kinda slick.
Wow, Allie, that is one great mix. Chockfull of sugary goodness. I loved it all, but Ladyhawke, School of Seven Bells, The Generationals, The Kooks - all new to me. Thank you ever so much!
A bunch of songs from your mix are now on my lunchtime walk playlist. So your mix is contributing to my vascular health, mental health, appreciation of nature and sunshine, etc.,. However, you owe me for a new pair of shoes...
