Awkward.

The wait is over: release the hounds!
And not a minute too soon—no longer shall you be kept apart from your favorite new mix, this by Ms. Fung, maker of Endless Excellent Class Action from Jan. '11, of which was said, 'Holy awesome—this is all just so fantastically perfect,' 'You went through my head and addressed my musical desires. Favorites: all," 'Now it's official: I always love, love, love your mixes,' 'Is MAGIC the HEY YA for 2011?', 15 minutes after putting this on, I was wondering why I was go-go dancing as I washed the dishes,' 'Bright shiny mix, and lots of stuff I've never heard,' 'You will be pleased to know that in order to remember the title of this mix, I had to say, 'Wait, what does the Bejewelled guy always say? Oh yeah—EXCELLENT,' 'Another stellar mix,' 'Damn, this whole set just makes me happy,' and 'I bypassed today' exercise and had a solo AM dance party, pajamas et all. High Octane BPE = beats per espresso shots.'

Before that triumph, we were treated in Oct. '09 to A World of Fine Dining and Miracles, garnerer of "This is ridiculous: you speak my language, but in another tongue—if that makes sense," "So much electro pop sentiment! Thank you thank you," "Good lord, I think you might be my musical soulmate," "Chockfull of sugary goodness," and "A bunch of these songs are now on my lunchtime walk playlist, so your mix is contributing to my vascular health, mental health, appreciation of nature and sunshine, etc...However, you owe me for a new pair of shoes."
Then there was that mix back in Dec. '08, which inspired "F*CK YES!," "Woweeeee!," "Outrageously delectable," and other such sentiments. So if you're okay with superlatively fantastic pop, check it owwwwwt.

Liner notes/Manifesto by Dr. Fung
Awkward. Because that’s how I was my first 20 years. Some would say my first 25 years.

Awkward. Because I really screwed the pooch by giving over my 3MPMP in 18 different pieces.

Awkward. Because going to dinner requires one to actually eat something.

Awkward. Because I had “Pumped Up Kicks” on my mix and Ms. Compton had already snagged it.

Awkward. Because I’m old and I have to get my music cue’s from a MTV show called “Awkward” about high school angst.

Awkward. Because that happens to be one of my favorite shows right now. Did I mention it was about high school?

Awkward. Because I almost left Pete Kellen off as another one of my musical pushers.

Mix is up. Let's get
some comments commented here.
See you back here or on our members-only Facebook page.
Until next week, XOK

Fungtastic. In fact, this mix is almost as entertaining as one of Allie's Facebook updates. Favorite tracks are Beirut, Vaccines and Neon Indian (not to be confused with Neon Trees). Oh, and the Knocks track at the end is so contagious it should be called 'Pinkeye'.

Not awkward at all Allie!

Immediate faves are East Harlem, the Future and Helena Beat.

Future faves who knows - cause your mixes always have long lasting flavor.

i feel awkward saying this, but I always look forward to your mixes.
as usual, this does not disappoint.

ps: line 3: ha!

Neon Trees! This song has been on my playlist for some time! Love it!

Allie -- Thanks for "Helena Beat." Last summer the household 14 year-old seemed relieved to hear that the ancient one was not only aware of the "Pumped Up Kicks" hit, he actually dug the song. Muchly. Now I can hang with 21st Century American Youth while discussing the finer points of Foster The People's songs... and possibly get by using a plural "s." /// Dang. That's a sweet song by Beirut. /// The Drums reminds me of Simple Minds. Everything eventually comes back around again, right?

Allie,
I've been a victim of song-snagging as well, but I'm glad I got to find a new fave Foster the People song. Love the other tracks, too -- they'll all be going onto the iPod immediately for workout inspiration. You could have also called this mix "Awesome"!

Who invented that Vaccines drumbeat, with the snare on (2, 4, 6, 7.5, 8.5)? I think of it as the New Order "Age of Consent" beat. Can't go wrong with that.

Beirut = hometown proud.

Oh Darling = ST cuppa tea.

Experienced Toby's above-cited Awesome-Morning-Anthemness of The Temper on Sunday.

I'd go on but you get the idea.

Stellar.

Thanks.

Totally fun mix, Allie. Thank you. Love Neon Indian, The Knocks, Beirut, The Vaccines. And I feel 3% cooler seeing Temper Trap and The Naked and Famous on your mix, as I was circling both bands for my last mix. Damn that 45-minute limit! (Actually, I kinda like that limit).

Foster the People—did Ratatat have anything to do with their track? Sure sounds like it.

Thanks everyone for the awesome feedback. I had a few weeks of handwringing when it wasn't coming together but it seems that it all worked out A-Okay. I didn't mean to have that much neon in my mix but ... happy accidents! And yes, Foster the People have the one other good song. Other than that I am hard pressed to listen to ANYTHING else on that album.

@ Kellen - that song Dancing with the DJ has been on repeat since Sunday when I was fist pumping in my air mattress at my sisters in NJ at 1 am in the morning!

@ Toby - I like to time my cresting on the bart escalator onto 2nd street just as the J Aherne croons "Keeee - eep me in mind"

This mix is pure pop deliciousness. Well done.

Is this what the kids call electro-pop? For some reason I found the mix more effective on my headphones which led to uncontrolled toe-tapping on the el this morning. 'Leave the Light On' was my favorite, but it's close.

Thanks Doc. I enjoyed the Vaccines and Beirut most, which I typically steer clear of. But I enjoyed it all despite the fact that I tend to avoid most electro-pop, most likely because I didn't have an astute guide. And is The Naked and Famous really MGMT's alter ego?

Mose (coworker at the shop): "Who's this?"
Me: "Oh Darling"
Mose: "It's adorable!"

In my limited one year 3mpm membership, it can be said that i love allie fung mixes....lots of great stuff. (I'm embarrassed to say that I totally know the neon trees song, I think i even have it on my computer....but in this day of all digital, i had no idea who the band was! um....truly awkward.)

lots of great stuff. love the Vaccines track! Beirut, Oh Darling, and The Naked and Famous esp, but really the whole thing is already going on repeat for me here today!

This is indeed a mix of great pop pleasures. Why do I always like songs that reference the difficulty of getting out of bed? And Oh Darling is some delish sugar that should be a soundtrack for the best teenage drama yet. Thanks for being an excellent ambassador from the sugar realms, Allie!

Swell mix. I love the high-energy Vaccines tune that came bursting out of the gate to start this thing off.

Great mix with a cheerful peppy flow. I could bop around to this all day!

This was a welcome dose of musical uppers in my iTunes library.

The aggravations of a long day don't stand a chance against the infectious Neon Trees track.

Also love the charming and happy-making East Harlem.

Just to name a few.

Thank you!

Another AF mix that makes it into my "repeat" playlist hall of fame. P.S. I think we watch the same TV shows.

p.s. I had to comment twice (now three times - will it ever stop)since I have been playing this mix a lot lately!

"Endless Excellent Class Action" hinted at it, but this confirms it: you and I share a lot in the taste department, Allie.

How funny that I was wearing my Temper Trap t-shirt today and bang --there they are. Great band, amazing singer. Catch them live if you can. I was lucky to see them play a 150- capacity room and was blasted sockless. Shame that then they did Coke ads and the lot and lost a bit of cred, but I still wear my tee proudly.

BTW they show up in my player as "The Temper" --did they finally change their name to avoid confusions with Amelia Fletcher's Tender Trap?

Loved the whole thing, thanks for sharing!
